I've been thinking for a long time that it's not enough to archive my Harry Potter fics in FF.net. I mean, it's great for archiving fanfics (I like to have everything in one place, be it L&C, HP, or Tekken), keeping a list of favourites and story/author alerts and getting reviews. But I know for a fact that many people stay away from it because there's a lot of low-quality material, and because of other complaints they have with it.

Besides, since my L&C fics are archived in the Lois & Clark Fanfic Archive, I think that I should have my HP fics archived somewhere on their own as well. Hopefully, it would draw more people's attention to the HP aspect of my work - and I'm still a relative newbie in the HP fandom, so I could use it.

My main problem is - well, apart from opening ANOTHER account to ANOTHER site, which always makes me a little nervous - that most sites have limitations i.e. regarding ships/story genre etc.. I visited the sites vea has been posting Diary on:

- Portkey really doesn't suit me, as it's ship-centered - not to mention our ship tastes clash.

- The Unknowable Room seems okay, but I see it has a very small archive (990 stories so far, by 380 individual authors). A small archive probably means a small number of people frequenting it; and if I'm to go through the trouble of registering to another site, I'd like to know it's one where many people are likely to see my work. Can you blame me?

- As for FictionAlley, it seems like my best option, although they categorize fics. This is a good thing, from one POV, but I have always had trouble categorizing my fics - or anything, for that matter. For example, where would you put an angsty romance? Under the romantic, or under the angsty section?

(Vea, if you could share your experience with FictionAlley, it would be most enlightening.)

I'm also open to suggestions; if you know a HP archive that has no ship or genre limitations, is frequented by a large number of people, and has a review system, leave me a link, please.

Thank you all,
Anna :)

The best categorisation is www.restrictedsection.org but you cant post them there. One of the main reason I love that site is its search options. And categorisation options. For example you can put both angst and romance and exlude narcissa etc. But as I said its a smut site so it does not qualify.

A smut site, eh? Doesn't quite suit me. I have never written anything even *remotely* related to smut.

Thanks for replying, though :)

See ya,
Anna.

Yeah the only one I know of believe me. And that is just because the search engine impressed me. I dont write any fan fic I just read fan fic. Apart from where you know mostly at the national library and Missing Pieces.

I haven't written any smut, but I visited mugglenet.com. Seems like a good option; I will consider it. Thanks! :)

Ooh, my advice? (I got excited that you asked.) Let's see. I love Portkey, but obviously you do run into those ship issues. UR is just a beginning archive, as you noted, and the reviews there are few and far between.

FA... Eh. I'm not a big fan of their archiving system, but that's just me. Some of the mods can throw out a chapter for one minor error, while others let some by. At least they tell you what's wrong with the submission, which I do like. (Luckily, I've only had a rejected chapter once, for one error. Grr. Other experience comes from the new beta projects I take on.) Reviews are more prominent there than on UR, or at least in my experience. No easy review-reply system or alert system either, and you can't tell how many people have faved it or anything. So, yes, FA might be good. If your chapters are more than 3000 words a pop, go for Schnoogle. It takes all genres, so you just have to pic a sub-genre like you would for FFn anyway.

I had a couple chapters up at Mugglenet before I decided I wasn't a fan of that system. My friend was working at harrypotterfanfiction.com, but the quality of work there is sketchy.

Wow, ramble much? Whoops.
