Archiving HP fanfics
Sep. 6th, 2006 05:37 pmI've been thinking for a long time that it's not enough to archive my Harry Potter fics in FF.net. I mean, it's great for archiving fanfics (I like to have everything in one place, be it L&C, HP, or Tekken), keeping a list of favourites and story/author alerts and getting reviews. But I know for a fact that many people stay away from it because there's a lot of low-quality material, and because of other complaints they have with it.
Besides, since my L&C fics are archived in the Lois & Clark Fanfic Archive, I think that I should have my HP fics archived somewhere on their own as well. Hopefully, it would draw more people's attention to the HP aspect of my work - and I'm still a relative newbie in the HP fandom, so I could use it.
My main problem is - well, apart from opening ANOTHER account to ANOTHER site, which always makes me a little nervous - that most sites have limitations i.e. regarding ships/story genre etc.. I visited the sites vea has been posting Diary on:
- Portkey really doesn't suit me, as it's ship-centered - not to mention our ship tastes clash.
- The Unknowable Room seems okay, but I see it has a very small archive (990 stories so far, by 380 individual authors). A small archive probably means a small number of people frequenting it; and if I'm to go through the trouble of registering to another site, I'd like to know it's one where many people are likely to see my work. Can you blame me?
- As for FictionAlley, it seems like my best option, although they categorize fics. This is a good thing, from one POV, but I have always had trouble categorizing my fics - or anything, for that matter. For example, where would you put an angsty romance? Under the romantic, or under the angsty section?
(Vea, if you could share your experience with FictionAlley, it would be most enlightening.)
I'm also open to suggestions; if you know a HP archive that has no ship or genre limitations, is frequented by a large number of people, and has a review system, leave me a link, please.
Thank you all,
Anna :)
