Last night I was thinking about how much I've been neglecting my fics lately, and I remembered I had this tiny L/J to post. I'd been withholding it to see if it could evolve to something longer but at this point of my life I don't feel able to write anything (including LJ entries). So I thought I'd post it as is.
FF.net's document manager was down, though, and wouldn't let me upload it. I tried again a few minutes ago and it's still down. So no L/J ficlet for the time being. And no Through Times Of War, either (God, I really have to get writing). The only good part is that it's making me feel a little less guilty about not having worked on Cath's latest chapter of YGMHP. *shifty*
I finally organized my playlist on this computer too. (Hope it's been saved all right.) And I realized I have several songs in it I can barely even stand to listen... dunno why I'm keeping them. Pack rat tendencies, probably. They're not too bad to listen to if they're playing in the background while you're doing something else, but if I want to listen to music and it's their turn, I usually prefer not to listen to music at all. (What? Skip them? I don't *skip* songs. It's not fair. Yes, I know I'm weird. Deal with it.)
I need to figure out how to burn CDs/DVDs now. I have this program that came with the computer and I'm not exactly sure of how it works or what it does. Plus, I can't find anywhere in the laptop's manual what kind of DVDs it can burn :-/ and since I'm quite a bit clueless about the whole DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-R and whatnot business (though I guess I could research it online), it's stayed behind. Not to mention, I was out of empty CDs and DVDs so I couldn't test it.
Pfft.
And I also have this problem with my system's folders: In all the programs I've tried to use that involve receiving files, it saves the files in non-existent folders. :S My system has a Χρήστες folder instead of a Users folder, and an Αρχεία Εφαρμογών folder instead of a Program Files. Technically, they should be equivalents, with only a change in name because I have Greek Windows. But they're not, and the programs just don't get it. For example, when people DCC me files on IRC, it will try to save to C:\Program Files\mIRC\Received Files, only there's no such path to be found on my system. There's only a C:\Αρχεία Εφαρμογών\mIRC\Received Files. The transfer goes on nonetheless - and then when I look into mIRC's Received Files the file is not there. Any attempts to find the C:\Program Files\mIRC folders are in vain. And the icing on the cake is what happened two days ago: I download an mp3 file, use mIRC's 'Open' button to play it, it plays just fine, and then I run a system search to find where it's stored. And it's nowhere. *helpless shrug*
I tried changing the settings to fix the paths, and it actually worked on Windows Live Messenger and eMule, but it didn't on IRC. I handpick the folder where I want my files to go (tried to put it in the same one as the Windows Live received files) and it just keeps giving me Users instead of Χρήστες. I don't know what's wrong. I'm thinking it may be a glitch in Vista.
I broke the glass of our car's right mirror yesterday. Dad was relieved because he thought I was going to crash into the other car altogether. :p He put a new glass up, but seriously, I'm so frustrated of not being able to drive on my own. I've had my licence for half a year now!
I'll get to drive on my own next week - because Dad will be away for four days accompanying the kids on a school trip and my brothers and I have to go places. :p But I bet you he'll lose four years of his life worrying whether I've gotten myself killed already. And, after yesterday's incident, I kinda think it won't be without a reason. I mean, I thought I could drive all right and my dad was just being over-protective in only letting me drive in his company. But if his guidance won't keep me from hitting into other cars' mirrors, I'm kind of scared to think where I'm about to end up if I don't even have him along to remind me NOT TO DRIVE SO CLOSE TO THE PARKED CARS, FOR GOD'S SAKE.
(But don't tell him that.)
Athens is not a drivers-friendly place, people. Keep that in mind. The only good thing about it is that, if you learn how to drive in Athens, you know how to drive anywhere in the world.
I can't believe it's Friday. This means tomorrow's Saturday, the day after tomorrow's Sunday, and then classes start again. Damn it. I got way too used to sitting on my bum to go back to class. Also, I have done absolutely NOTHING, NADA, RIEN DU TOUT, ΤΙΠΟΤΑ ΤΟΥ ΤΙΠΟΤΑ Ω ΤΙΠΟΤΑ where studying is concerned. I had it in the back of my mind that I should at least revise Organic Chemistry I, but (surprise surprise!) I have yet to even open my notebook.
I'm such a responsible student.
But I broke my typing record yesterday by scoring a 6.205 keys per second in one of the Greek IRC trivia channels. Go me.
Last but not least, will that cold of mine go away already? I'm tired of this cough. :-/
Talk to you soon, f-list. ♥

Date: 2007-04-13 08:03 pm (UTC)Would that be Lois/Somebody?
*is hopeless when it comes to other fandoms.
Re: the problem with your folders, wouldn't it be easier to rename Χρήστες and call it Users? If the mountain won't come to Muhammad (or however the saying goes in English)...
Or, you know, create a Program Files folder and a mIRC folder in that one... Anyway, I'm sure there's a loophole or something.
Oh, I so do know what you mean. Can't wait for the summer!
Try some honey and lime juice, it might help your cough.

Date: 2007-04-13 08:23 pm (UTC)Renaming... *ponders* Good idea. Definitely has potential. Though I'd need to make sure it doesn't screw up my other programs. Or maybe I should try the setting up a new folder thing. Thanks for the help anyway. :)
And OMG, you use the saying with the Muhammad and the mountain in Spanish? We use it in Greek too! That's so awesome (in a geeky way)! :D

Date: 2007-04-13 08:08 pm (UTC)You know, I've been thinking about that a lot lately for me too. I have done nothing on Hallucinations (and I probably won't, but still) or on that Hogwarts/LJ mix up thing. I'm crap.
Lol, I find it funny that you are lucky in the way. XD
If you unselect the song, it's not deleting them and it's not really skipping them since you don't hit the next song button. That's my loop hole. Enjoy it.
I'm sorry, I'm not coputer savvy, so can't help you navigate it : /
My dad wouldn't let me drive at all if I did that. you have a very wonderful dad. So uderstanding, and though I love my dad, I wish he was a bitmore like yours.
I have to go back to school on monday too. really don't want to. I enjoy sooo much sitting on my arse and getting fat while eating chocolate.
And yay Anna! Typing for the win!
