W00t!

I got a new laptop yesterday! :DD

After my CD/DVD reader broke on the other one (I can't remember if I've already mentioned that or not), it was the final straw. It already had a burnt out battery, a non-working touchpad, a faulty graphics card and no way to be fixed without paying at least half its price again.

My new laptop is a Turbo-X Sirius Sirus Duo with excellent qualifications. And, in case you're interested, Windows Vista are compatible with the Sims 2. I checked it myself at the store before agreeing to buy the laptop. :P

The only downside is that it didn't come with any programs preinstalled. I have no Office! And I can't read my fics! :SSSS D'you guys know if there's a program I can download that will read .doc files? If not, well, I suppose I can get Office somewhere...

Oh, I got a webcam, too. Only I don't know how much I'll be using it because when I'm online I'm usually in my pyjamas, hair unbrushed, looking a mess. :P You might be amused at how I got it, though...

(Dad and I are in the store; I'm on their test subject-computer installing the Sims 2, Dad is looking around.)

Dad: *points to a laptop's screen* Hey, Anna, look! It's me!
Me: *looks* Ah, yeah, I know. It's got a webcam. *points* This thing here.
Dad: Cool, isn't it?
Me: Sure.
Dad: Is it expensive?
Me: Nah... around 30 euros.
Dad: Do you want one?
Me: *hides big grin* Sure.

Back to installing programs/transferring files etc..

As for downloading programs, I usually use download.com Maybe you can find Office there?

I think you can get OFFICE from fanfiction.net. On my old computer, I downloaded it from there.

I see that FF.net offers OpenOffice, and I got some comments telling me it's good, so I'll probably go for it. :)

You could go to www.openoffice.org and download their suite. It does everything MS Office does but it's open-source so you're not incurring in copyright infringement. And you can get it in a variety of languages, although I'm not sure if Greek is one of them.

Seconding the above, OpenOffice will do what you need (has equivalents for Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and even Access, I think), and I'm pretty sure it's available in Greek--it's available in a LOT of languages. It even has a clipart package you can get for it. Feel free to ask me any questions you have--I've used OpenOffice before (though not that much), and I'm used to finding freeware and open source stuff to do the same thing as payware. One of my specialties. :D I love free software, and games, and . . . you get the picture. *G*

And haha, you dad. Webcams are fun. I don't have one, actually, but they seem fun. My friend has one and she once recorded our whole conversation with it and I had no idea. lol. Luckily I didn't talk about anything damaging. :)
I miss my old laptop (I have a desktop now. Her name is Andromeda). His name was Alfonzo. But he died a horrific death (which involved his screen being ruined and his system failing). At least he's at peace now.
And my scanner's name is Bobert. And my bed is Zaphod Beeblebrox ( :D I love those books).

Andromeda is from Andromeda Tonks-Black. Alfonzo waaas... damn, I don't remember. I think it had something to do with me accidentally switching the text to Spanish one time and then naming him the first Spanish name that popped into my head. But I could be mistaken. Haha.
Bobert is Bob but fancier because I wasn't very inventive when I got the scanner and he was too shiny to be a Bob.
Zaphod Beeblebrox is, of course, from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
