And the bad luck continues
Oct. 2nd, 2006 11:48 pmRemember the 500 euros I was supposed to be granted for having the highest graduation grade on my school?
I won't be taking them.
As I had told you, I had the same grade as another girl. The principal had said we'd share the 1,000 euros prize. But, apparently, that's not how it works. Since we knew from another friend who's getting her prize for her own school that she had already been notified, my dad called the local education department and found out that, if more than one students get the top grade of their school, the prize goes to the one who has the highest university access grade. Guess who it was in my school.
I'll give you a hint. It wasn't me.
Story of my life. I'm always 'first, but...'. Never managed to get the recognition I deserved, in whatever form it was offered - usually in a honorary position during the national holidays marches (holding the flag, or standing by it). I won't tire you with the details, since I can summarize in 4 words: 'Just my bad luck.'
I'm not sad about it, or angry, or anything of the sort. Just a little miffed at the bad luck that accompanied all my otherwise successful journey through school. I mean, it's the fourth time something like this happens, and it's not like there was one time that it went 'great'. Third time's not the charm, in my case :p
Well, these things happen. I'm not looking for sympathy by posting this - I don't *need* sympathy, even. I've reconciled myself with the fact, perhaps because I'm used to such things happening to me :p Just - if you hear me talking about my bad luck sometime, you'll know that this is (another) one of the examples :p
On other news, the day went fine today. Went to class in the afternoon and then for a coffee with a friend (not from the university). Tomorrow I'll go with my university friends to the center of Athens, to get our feeding cards. (They allow you to pay less to eat at certain restaurants, or something like that. Pretty nifty *g*)
That's all from me for today. Will see you around.
