Fic ramblings
Mar. 23rd, 2006 10:37 pmThis scene is the bane of my existence.
I'm referring to the final scene of my Harry Potter fic, The Journey Of The Phoenix. I've been working on it since September, it's March - almost April - and it's still not finished. Well, it's written, but it won't be considered finished until I'm happy with it.
It's been through different phases. Some of them only stayed in my head; some of them I wrote down. I ended up with one I was satisfied with (not happy, though) and
mercutio_rane did me the favour to take a look at it and send me some comments and corrections. It looks better now, and I've moved on to being 'pleased' with it, but I'm still not happy. The resolution of the Remus/Tonks plotline looks just so... I don't know, forced? Rushed? Something to that effect.
Also, two RL friends of mine read it (the non-Beta-ed version). The first one said it was great. The second one said it needed work. *whimpers* I want this scene to be the best in the entire fic, but... after all this time and all these tries, I'm not sure I can pull it off. I was thinking... maybe I should change direction altogether? The problem is, I can only write in a linear fashion: beginning, middle, end. I can't write the end first, as some people do. So I have to start writing this different direction, but I'm afraid I'll get stuck again. I have plenty of ideas for starting the scene, but finishing it is a whole nother issue. (Is that proper usage of English?)
I've let the people over at FF.net know it'll be a while until the final chapter is ready and posted. I'm hoping to find some time to work on it during the weekend... time *and* motivation, that is. But my motivation has kinda moved on to the sequel (which, incidentally, is going very very well) so... I don't know. But I'll be optimistic. I can do optimistic. /me is optimistic.
Okay, it's all out now, and it feels much better. Thanks for reading, folks.
See ya,
Anna.
