We lost. :(

It was a bad game for us. And me not watching didn't help, either Blushing 5

Anyways. We're second anyway. Second in the world; I daresay that's not too bad, right? ;) And I'm very happy to see that there are people celebrating down in the center of Athens (and Salonica, and other places). Just as if we had won. It's nice that there are no hard feelings from the public against the players - because it often happens in Greece that when someone fails at something, the public immediately forgets all the success they've had in the past and starts blaming them. An idol can become a loser in the blink of an eye. It's good to grow out of this mentality.

We can't be happy for losing in the final, but we managed a lot in this championship. We're keeping the 8 consecutive victories, the greatly important victory in the semifinal against the team of the United States and the silver medal, and we're hoping for more to come.

Oh, and congratulations to Spain :)

See ya,
Anna :)

ohhh, that's wild. they're celebrating...even tho they lost...and normally they would take it out on...the players??

very different. here, we take it out on the OTHER players...they beat us? we beat up their fans. then you get riots :( or at the least, big fights in the parking lot after the game.

That happens here when it's games between two teams with much rivalry between them... especially in football (soccer) matches. And sometimes people initiate fights just for the heck of it...

Though it's been a couple of years that these phenomena have greatly diminished. I remember there used to be riots every weekend when there were football games, but not anymore. Perhaps, after the 2004 Olympics, we learned to have much tolerance towards each other?

Or maybe it's just the stricter safety measures :D

See ya,
Anna.

it's the stricter safety measures ;)

i think *all* teams have rivalry, in the US. i could be wrong, but it seems like it. some worse than others, of course.

and i did think soccer (football) had a lot of riots in other countries (possibly including greece), i hear about that from time to time... it's not a big sport in the US (yet, it's catching on) so not as much rivalry.
