I'm not a fan of petitions, but it's probably the only thing I can do...

Help stop the war in Middle East: http://www.ceasefirecampaign.org/index.php Please spread the word if you think it might help.

See ya,
Anna.

You *do* know that pressuring global leaders won't help matters with Hezballah? Their mindset is *totally* different from ours--their goal is to eliminate Israel and anyone else who won't convert to Islam--*their* Islam. Reasoning with them won't help, cease fire *especially* won't help--all that will do is keep the pressure off of them to defend, and allow them time to build up more weapons. A cease fire would never have worked with Hitler, and it won't work with them--they have the same fanatical ideology. War isn't pleasant, and people die, but sometimes it's the only solution to a situation--the lesser of two evils. The best thing we can do right now is support Israel in its fight against an opponent that threatens all of us in the free world. Advocating cease fire will only help Hezballah's cause, and more civilians will die in the end from it. They are the greatest contributor to their civilians dying, as they purposely entrench themselves in villages, amid women and children. If a bomb does not hit them, they are happy because they're still alive. If a bomb does hit them, they have excellent propaganda to hold up--"Look how evil the Israelis are, they have bombed innocent women and children!" Hezballah's tactics go deliberately against every rule of decency in combat. They also have been documented to have falsified body counts by faking funerals, staging multiple photos of the same body from different angles, using bodies from those who died of natural causes to show how they were "killed from an Israeli bomb". I'm sorry, but I could never in good conscience sign or support this in any way--it will only lead to more deaths and suffering in the long run.

I admit I haven't been very involved with this war. I had a bad experience with the war in Iraq (painful arguments with classmates that ended up in me being mocked because of my opinions - won't provide details right now) so maybe that's why my mind is reluctant to bother, if you'll pardon my putting it so boldly.

I heard on the news there's been a ceasefire, and I'm happy about it. I mean, I don't know whether Hezbollah will take advantage of it to built weapons and everything, I'm not even sure I've "chosen a side" yet (I don't approve of Hezbollah's tactics at all, but AFAIK it was Israel that shot first, and without knowing the whole history behind the war, I don't want to judge) - but at least ceasefire will mean less losses in human lives for now. And we can hope that there will be more measures to prevent terrorist attacks etc. afterwards.

Don't mean to argue with you, you're definitely more well-versed on the subject than I am, just wanted to explain why I signed and posted this.

See ya,
Anna.
