Boredom and video games go together?
Jun. 25th, 2006 08:50 pmI'm updating because I'm mighty bored.
You know, during school/finals, I feel inspired to write, I'm in the mood to read, I plan things like 'when I have time, I'll do this/that'. And then, vacations come, and... blank. No Muse, no mood, no nothing. The only thing I'm in the mood to do is play computer games - but since I'm on a laptop, I must not play for a long time, because otherwise my screen crashes.
Does it happen to you too? (Not the screen-crashing, the boredom.)
On a happier note, it seems that my laptop can burn DVD+RWs. Oh, the possibilities! I'll be able to burn the La Mentira episodes, which are eating up my HD space (Delete them?? Are you out of your mind??) and get some free space to install Zoo Tycoon again. I haven't played it in two years, and I miss it. Also, I'm planning to buy The Sims 2 Open For Business Expansion Pack during the summer. And will need some free space for it, too. I tried to make some by burning in CDs the L&C music videos and trailers I had, but they didn't even fill up two CDs.
And because I'm still bored, I'm off to play The Sims 2. Betcha it will crash immediately - it has a tendency to do that when I don't start the game right after I turn on the computer.
Hmm, on second thought, I'll turn it off for a while first. (How pathetic is it that I can never manage to remember the proper wording - on second thought, on second thoughts, on a second thought...? I always have to resort to checking No Excuse, where I've used it and it's been GE'd.)
Random thought of the day: The most annoying thing about summer in Greece (and many other places, I'm sure) is the multitude of mosquitoes. *scratches bites*
Oof (spelled like that to convey relief, unlike 'ouf', which conveys disappointment and tiredness... at least in my dialect), posting here made me feel better and took away some of my boredom. I guess I just needed to talk to somebody. And I just love that about the Internet; it gives you the chance to say what you want to say and get the feeling that you're actually talking to someone, even if at the end of the day nobody reads what you're saying. Because you can imagine people just read it and didn't comment. Unlike RL, where talking to the void is very frustrating.
Off on mosquito-extinguishing mission... (aka. putting on an insect-repellent tablet.) And then it's The Sims 2 time... or maybe...? *checks TV guide* No, nothing interesting on tonight. Ah well.
See ya,
Anna :)

Date: 2006-06-25 07:06 pm (UTC)As for the boredom... happens to me ALL the time! I've been playing gads of computer games, too! I'm supposed to be writing. :P
It's not pathetic at all. It's the mix of English that you're exposed to. ;) "on second thought" is American English, "on second thoughts" is British English and... I'm not sure I've heard the last one, but that should at least explain your confusion. :) Oh, and if it makes you feel better, I now always have to double check my spelling on words like sympathize/sympathise for the same reason. ;P

Date: 2006-06-25 08:25 pm (UTC)Yeah, me too. Sometimes I just can't find anything to comment on. Same about replying to comments other people left on my LJ.
"on second thought" is American English, "on second thoughts" is British English
Haha, knowing that I can use any of the two I want, and nobody can tell me I'm wrong! As a non-native English speaker, I can adopt any of the variations I want :p
Though I'm so nitpicky I'll probably end up using it according to which version of English I'm using... and I think that, in my non-stories posts, I tend to make a nice British-American mess.
I've always used -ize, but I've been trying to use British spelling for my HP fics. The number of times I've had to go back and replace a z with an s... And of course, it kinda feels weird to see it afterwards :p
See ya,
Anna :)

Date: 2006-06-25 07:30 pm (UTC)I understand the writing/reading issue. Generally I feel the most compelled to write when it's the last thing I should be doing. I don't know why, but whenever I have infinite amounts of free time, I usually end up doing absolutely nothing.
I'm so productive.

Date: 2006-06-25 08:04 pm (UTC)And I'm like that. During school, I'm so busy and I get inspired so many times that I just jot myself a few notes and tell myself I'll do it later, and friends recommend/lend me books/movies, and I just have so much *stuff* to do when summer vacation rolls around. Now it's summer vacation and... nothing.
I can't be buggered to move my lazy arse off the chair, is why.So yes, the boredom happens to me... in its worst form. *groans* It's human nature, I imagine. No mosquitoes here, yet. :D Though it's only a matter of days before they swarm inside the house and begin biting at night... :S

Date: 2006-06-26 09:15 am (UTC)I've heard from other sources that laptops often have problems with video games. And it seems that the companies, or at least EA, have decided to point it out. In Nightlife, in the back of the box, after it gives a list with the compatible graphic cards, it says 'The version of these graphics cards for laptops are not supported', and in the instruction leaflet it says 'The graphic cards for laptops might work with the game but are not supported by Electronic Arts' (emphasis not mine).
Ah, well. I still play it *g*
See ya,
Anna.
P.S.: Replying to this comment gave me a deja vu moment...

Date: 2006-06-27 12:08 pm (UTC)I get what you mean about the boredom thing. Oddly enough, when I'm busy and at a point where I really shouldn't write because I have more important stuff to do, like school, plot bunnies are attacking me and I have an overwhelming urge to write. Finally when I do get time and there's basically nothing to do except write some fanfiction, I'm not in the mood. *le sigh* Such confusing ways of a Cath....
