Enter lunacy
Jun. 18th, 2006 12:58 amI must be crazy.
I've got an English exam on Monday. (And a Physics one too, but that's irrelevant.) English exam = the perfect excuse to read and write fic - start reading a few of those L&C masterpieces I shamelessly haven't read in my three years of being a FoLC, continue working on the sequel to The Journey Of The Phoenix, or maybe read and write a bit for
rt_challenge.
What am I doing instead? The most logical, reasonable thing possible. Exactly what you would expect someone who's preparing for an English exam to do.
I'M TRANSLATING THE NOVEL VERSION OF 'LA MENTIRA' FROM SPANISH TO GREEK.
Somebody please shoot me.
'La Mentira', you see, is based on a novel Caridad Bravo Adams wrote in 1952. I found it online a couple of weeks ago and saved it in my computer, then thought I wouldn't read it until I was done watching all the episodes. But yesterday I couldn't help myself and started reading it. Got down to reading one third of it, then as the wedding approached (of which I'd seen the dubbed version but hadn't downloaded the original episode yet) I thought it would be better to leave it for the moment. Today I really, really felt like reading more, but I couldn't find it in myself to move on further to the novel before watching the episodes (which is funny, given how I usually prefer the books to the movies/TV series - but this time I'd already started the TV series first so it's not the same thing). So, to stop myself from going further, I took it FROM THE BEGINNING and started translating.
I'm babbling. And I'm crazy. Why haven't you shot me yet?
I could at least have chosen to translate something from English but Noooo! I had to fall head-over-heels *right now* for a "fandom" that's created in *Spanish*.
Life's unfair.
D'you think I could find someone to publish it, once I'm done with it? Granted, I'm doing it for pleasure, but I might as well gain something.
See ya,
Anna.

Date: 2006-06-18 05:53 am (UTC)I would shoot you but I have taken my gun for maintanance. Raincheck?
Date: 2006-06-18 12:44 pm (UTC)Secondly. Really? You have only been a FoLC for three years? Im assuming that since you started out as a FoLC you branched out to be a CLOIS fan? Or has that not happened to you?
Anyway the reason I find that so surprising its that it has always been on Greek TV and namely star channel the whole time. Well forget the fact that you showed up a little late to the party and embrassed the fact that you showed up at all.
Now to the most important part. I wouldnt worry at all about your english exam. I mean look at your posts. You're english is damn perfect. I am sure you will fly by smoothly. If its anything like all the other exams you have been writing about no worries. :D You always worry and then you always do well.
I did not know that La Mentira was a novel originally. You learn something every day. Girasko aei didaskomenos etc etc. Ok so i dont remember who said that but you know what I mean.
Ok seriously I envy you for speaking spanish. If I had a kid I would enroll it in two languages for sure. French and Spanish. If you know French Spanish and English you can travel basically most of the globe. One good side-effect of colonization. If you think how many ppl around the globe can speak those three languages as fluently as their own its mind blowing really.
Besides translating is good practice. Currently where I work they have me translating a game from english called rather naughty trivia. And its questions are exactly what you would think.
Anyway sorry I wont shoot you but dont worry you will do fine in both Physics and Spanish. Oops I mean English. :) I think I need more coffee.
Re: I would shoot you but I have taken my gun for maintanance. Raincheck?
Date: 2006-06-18 01:06 pm (UTC)(And, yay, I'm learning self-control! I've got two newly-downloaded episodes and I've resisted the urge to watch them, so far!)
I started watching L&C on its reruns in early 2002, but only found the online community a year later. (Actually, I didn't have Internet access before the summer of 2002 at all.) I don't regularly watch Smallville, though I read Zoom's episode reviews on www.zoomway.net - they're really fun - and so I know what's going on in there. I've watched the first two Superman movies, a bit of the cartoons, and I read the comics when I stumble across them. And I'll probably go see "Superman Returns". (Hey, maybe we can go together?)
You're welcome about the songs.
See ya,
Anna :)
Re: I would shoot you but I have taken my gun for maintanance. Raincheck?
Date: 2006-06-19 08:06 pm (UTC)heehe I get my dvd's of www.play.com
You are lucky you know if you are a new fan because unlike the rest of us you didnt have to wait ten years for its release.
Thank god for superman returns or they would never ahd released it I think. I've watched/own all four movies, seen a few of the animation with dana and tim, seen and will eventually own all of Lois and clark adn started watching smallville from season 4 when I heard that Lois lane showed up. So basically I saw it in reverse. I dont have access to the comics though.
oh you really dont be wanna seen with me annna anywhere. I am very fat.. Like im 1,62 and 94kg. Also I have a walking problem. From birth. Nothing major for you to be scared or anything. Im just saying. I am a dork and you will loose major coolness points if you are seen with me. :)
Id love to go though. If all this didnt scare you . Which suburb did you say you were in? Im in Nea Smyrni and I live about 15 minutes on foot from the multiplex in Syggrou avenue which is not very crowded and there is less risk that you will be seen by aquantances with me.
Id love to see the movie with a fellow clois fan but I will totally understand if you decide to back out. No parexigisi. :)
I can tell you I can make it anywhere that is near a metro/tram/bus/train stop because I dont drive. So I need sygginonia.
Re: I would shoot you but I have taken my gun for maintanance. Raincheck?
Date: 2006-06-20 10:24 pm (UTC)I live in Metamorfosi - which isn't exactly close, but I guess it could be worse :p I'll talk to my dad too (though he probably won't have a problem) and will email you about it.
See ya,
Anna :)
