On resolutions
Jan. 2nd, 2008 02:40 pmYou guys really find it useful to make resolutions for the new year?
I find the idea of making a resolutions list depressing. I have no idea if I could really follow through with it (maybe it would give me some motivation?) but it doesn't have to be January 1st for me to think about all the things I should do or would like to do. I do it all the time. And every time I do, it makes me sad to know I will be 20 this year, an age where you're supposed to be at the peak of your productivity, and so much of my supposedly precious and productive time is going to waste because I just don't want to make good use of it.
Off to lunch now.

Date: 2008-01-02 02:33 pm (UTC)and, to put your mind at ease, I don't make NY's resolutions. or maybe one or two I'll stick to. small steps: one you're sure to stick to throughout the year is better that a bunch you'll let go with first blowing breeze.
WOW! 2008, year of the capricorn and poetry's tingling! *g*
is it your resolution, though? making no good use of your productivity time?
BTW, gotta a parcel warning from post: so, will go fetch it in a few and let you know if it's yours. glad mine arrived safely and...last and late, will post the names creations along with Thodoris Bday (ahem) today.

Date: 2008-01-02 02:50 pm (UTC)Of course, I had decided to quit smoking before thinking of making any New Year Resolution, but I guess it is more easy for people to make a start with a certain day, i.e. "start studying from February", "start a diet on Monday", etc. I think it is more of a "convenient" start point, and that it is something that will make them more certain of themselves.
Dunno though, that is what I have noticed.
Oh, and I don't know many people who have turned 20 that are on the peek of their productivity. At that age people just don't know what to do with themselves and that is quite normal, for young people don't think of being productive, but more "let's have fun", "cool", and that stuff.
Soooo, I've no idea how "productive" you are, but if you are good at your studies (your job, that is, right now) then what would you ask more?
Btw, maybe you could make a tiny resolution to organise better your free time like I did? LOL

Date: 2008-01-02 03:16 pm (UTC)Many of the people around my age I know have extracurricular activities - work part time, study a foreign language/music, do sports/dancing (I'd actually like to start dance classes, but again, I'm not doing anything about it), stuff like that. Or at least dedicate some time during the semester to studying!
I wish you good luck with quitting smoking... it will really do you good. :)
Χρόνια πολλά και καλή χρονιά :)

Date: 2008-01-03 01:43 am (UTC)What? That doesn't count?
Okay. Well, like you, I don't make 'em. If I have a self-improvement project, I can start it anytime. If I don't, I'm not going to pretend or whatever just because it's January 1st.
I suppose it is a good time to stop and take stock. Make sure you're on the right track, etc. But I try to do that every once in a while, anyway. (Or, lately, I try not to do it at all...)
As for 20... It's not what it used to be. And there's a lot more to your 20s than just turning 20. You've got a whole decade to do stuff. (It's when that whole decade passes you by that... never mind. Not thinking about it.)
Relax. Be happy. That's what this time is really for. Take care of yourself. Try not to worry so much. And all that sort of thing.
Take this (if you want) as a chance to start something new, a new period, a new direction. Or not. Whatever suits you. You can always change your mind later. You've got plenty of time.
Happy New Year. :)

Date: 2008-01-03 11:11 pm (UTC)You had that line as your boards signature at some point, didn't you? I always found it lots of fun :D Actually, your signatures are always lots of fun :)
Thanks for the comment. I always read your comments and mull over them for a while before I respond, because they're so thought-provoking.
Happy New Year to you too! Hope it will be the best one in your life :)
Hugs,

Date: 2008-01-04 12:22 am (UTC)I do try to have fun with my sigs, but I haven't really been coming up with many new ones lately. Glad you enjoy, though. :)
Thanks for the comment on my comments, too. I'm honored. (Well, that's not quite the right word, but it'll have to do.) Gratified, too.
And thanks for the new year's wishes. You never know what it's going to bring. Here's hoping for good stuff for us all...
