Connected from my room! With a very expensive connection. And 28.8 kbps speed. But still, from my room, with my own laptop! There's something to be said about using your very own laptop, not being worried about logging off in time, able to email stuff you want (i.e. Potential to Cath. It's not ready yet, but at least I know I'll be able to email it when it will be.).

Thank you all for your wishes and your comments on my previous entry.

I'm here to test this connection, see if it works. The results will be out at 1 p.m., according to the news, so that's 16 minutes from now. I'll take advantage of this to explain a couple of things. Namely, the 'university bases' [livejournal.com profile] doranwen (and others, I'm sure) didn't understand what they are. I've already mentioned the rough details of how our system works, but it was a long time ago, and many of you haven't even seen the posts. Anyways.

So, we take the exams, our papers are graded, and then there's a very complicated system to calculate how many points you get according to your grades. Then you're asked to fill a form stating which university departments interest you and in which order.

BTW, since I never mentioned what I ended up stating in this form:

- All 7 Medicine departments, in order of distance from Athens. (Athens first, Patra second, Larissa third etc....)
- All 3 Pharmaceutics departments, again in order of distance from Athens.
- All 3 Electrical and Computer Engineering departments, same order.
- All 4 Biology departments, same order.

Anyways. So after they have the scores and the preferences forms of all students, the process goes as follows:

Starting with the student who has the highest points score of all, they see which is his first preference, and place them there. Then the student who is second in points score, then the third, and so on.

As you move on with the students, the available places in some departments get filled. So, to use myself as an example, by the time it's my turn to be placed, the Medicine department in Athens may be full (which it will surely be). They will then see if there's a place available in Patra. If yes, I'm going there. If not, they'll see if there's one in Larissa, and so on.

The 'bases' which are announced are the scores of the last student to enter a department. So if you hear on the news that the base for the Medicine department in Athens is 19,233 points (as it was last year), and you have above that, and it's your first preference, you know you're in. If you don't reach the requested score for your first preference, you check the bases of the departments you're interested in in order of your preferences as stated in the form you filled, and the first you find to be lower than your score, is the one you've been admitted in.

Though this year I heard that you'll be able to find exactly where you've been admitted from the Ministry's site, without having to check all the bases. Better this way.

Good news for those requesting picspam: My dad's brought the digital camera with him, and he absolutely loves taking pics. He took some pics of me and my cousin in and by the pool today. So there may be some picspam after all.

So... here's what you needed to know. I'm off to see if the results are up already (it's 1:04 p.m. already!) and, anyways, will post again when I know. It merits a post on its own, don't you think?

See ya,
Anna.

Pharmaceutics in Athens.

Missed the last Medicine department for a mere 65 points. But it's okay. I won't have to go through the trouble the transfer to Athens would be. And I'm betting Pharmaceutics is a very exciting field of study.

So... congratulate me! :))

See ya,
Anna.
